Cabbage mandrakes are a variety of mandrake .
Whenever unearthed, the root screams. The scream of a mature Cabbage mandrake when it is unearthed will kill any person who hears it, but a young Cabbage mandrake´s screams will usually only knock a person out for several hours.
A Cabbage mandrake scream is very similar to (if not the same as) a banshee's scream, which is also fatal.
It is recommended to wear earmuffs when you manipulate it to avoid knocking.
They are also poisono...us , so it is used by bad intentioned herbalists to make potions...

Las coles mandrágora son una variedad de mandrágora con características similares a ambas plantas.
Cuando se desentierra , la raíz grita. El grito de una col-mandrágora adulta matará a cualquier persona que lo escucha, pero el grito de una col-mandrágora joven por lo general sólo deja sin sentido durante varias horas.
El grito de una col-mandrágora es muy similar al de una banshee , que es también fatal.
Se recomienda usar protectores de oídos cuando se manipula para evitar sus efectos.
Además son también venenosas , por lo que se emplean en la elaboración de pociones por herbólogos con malas intenciones.

Three boxed specimens from El Dodo Albino Specimen Collection.

I´ve finished this three specimens  , one of them is the Termite fairy posted before  , the other two are gnomes , one fleshy and a skeleton :
I love boxed specimens with the naturalist collector look , this is what I tried with these. For sale at Etsy ,

Pseudofata lignatermes (Termite fairy) and Polyphagocinus albus (Garden white spidercrab)

I wanted to make some OOAK sculpts so I did these two : one "dead" specimen lying on the ground , a Pseudofata lignatermes or termite fairy. 

 

The second one is a  Polyphagocinus albus or garden white spidercrab .

Dubious expedition show pieces

Last saturday  the Dubious expedition show at Leanna Lin´s wonderland gallery was opened. These are the pieces I did for the collective expo . Many other artists participate too with a wide variety of styles .

The plot for the show is more or less is as follows :

In 1876, led by Captain James Maury, the H.M.S Chimera set sail from the Port of London with a  charter to circumnavigate the globe for the purposes of collecting scientific and anthropological specimens for the collection of the British Empire.
Captain Maury was convinced of --nay, obsessed with--  the existence of the island kingdom of Jobogo: an archipelago in the Pacific that every other scientist, cartographer and naval officer of the time dismissed as mythical.  Maury claimed to have seen it at a distance in his early whaling days.

While other ships’ logs mention coming across the H.M.S Chimera during their own voyages, reporting the crew in good spirits and great health, the H.M.S Chimera disappears from records in 1877. In 1878, the ship and her crew are considered officially lost at sea.

In 1900, the H.M.S. Chimera returns home with a cargo hold full of dazzling and wonderful things, but only two crew members - the ship’s navigator, and the cook. Neither navigator nor cook were able to explain the contents of their cargo hold, or in fact - any aspect of their voyage at all. The ship’s cook was institutionalized shortly thereafter, and the navigator spoke of little else but the “glorious horrors” until he disappeared on a Scottish moor three months later.

The findings of the Chimera were quickly sequestered into the collection of the British Museum, and hidden away for over a century.

I used real vintage boxes for the dinosaur and fairy pieces , casted polyurethane resin for fossils and modern but aged bottles for the fetuses. Museum tags are as the ones used in the british museum as well as the red stamp that appears in the big labels for the boxes and fossils.

Dubious expedition

This summer I´ve been quite busy with a new project. I was invited to a colective show with other artists for next october. This is part of one of the boxes , I still have to make photos and some things before shipping all...

 

 This is Grünbo, the pond shaman , accompanied by Frogga, his pet.
Pond Shamans are always in wetlands. They engage in magical rituals of healing and also invoke rain when the station is very dry.
His power is channeled through the magical staff , which is usually made ​​of natural materials with amulets attached .They are usually accompanied by a small amphibian fairy that serves as mascot and assistant.
Frogga, Grünbo mascot, secretes entheogenic substances that help him to enter in a state of trance. In addition she also protects him if attacked.

Grünbo and Frogga are OOAK sculptures, ie unique. No molds are used nor molds are taken, so they can not be replicated.
Made of polymer clay, both have glass eyes. Painted genesis oil and acrylics.

Size of Grünbo is 4,5 inches tall and Frogga is 1,5 inches tall aprox.

Los chamanes de charca se encuentran siempre en zonas húmedas. Se dedican a rituales mágicos de sanación y también a la invocación de lluvia cuando la estación es muy seca.
Su poder se canaliza mediante el bastón mágico que llevan , que suele estar hecho de materiales naturales a los que añaden otros amuletos que encuentran y cargan de energía .
Normalmente van acompañados de algún pequeño anfibio feérico que les sirve de mascota y ayudante .
Frogga  , la mascota de Grünbo , secreta sustancias enteogénicas que le ayudan a entrar en estado de trance. Además también le protege si es atacado.
Grünbo y Frogga son esculturas OOAK , es decir , únicas. No se han empleado moldes ni se han tomado moldes , por lo que no pueden ser replicados.
Fabricados en arcilla de polímero , ambos tienen ojos de cristal. Pintados con pinturas al óleo génesis y acrílicos.
Se vende a Grünbo con sus accesorios y a Frogga , su mascota.
Grünbo mide aproximadamente 12 cm de alto y Frogga 4,5 cm

Mummified feejee mermaid / Sirena de Feejee momificada

The  ​​cryptozoologist Octavius Zedock, obtained this specimen of  feejee mermaid during a Theosophical Society expedition to Fiji islands.
He was investigating the myth of mermaids that were shown in several traveling shows in the U.S.. realizing that they were all a fraud.
Through contacts of P.T. Barnum, (a famous showman in these years ), he discovered the real origin of these mermaids and decided to travel in order to discover if there was something real behind the myth.
This box contains the mummified corpse of a young specimen of feejee mermaid , egg remains , an adult tooth , photographs , newspaper clippings and a travel journal.

El criptozoólogo Octavius Zedock , obtuvo este especimen de sirena de feejee durante una expedición de la Sociedad Teosófica a las islas Fiji.
Estaba investigando el mito de las sirenas que se mostraban en shows itinerantes a través de los EEUU y se dió cuenta que todos eran un fraude.
A través de contactos de P.T. Barnum ( un famoso showman durante esos años ) , descubrió el origen real de estas sirenas y decidió viajar a Fiji para descubrir si había algo de real detrás del mito.
La caja contiene el cuerpo momificado de un ejemplar joven de sirena feejee , restos del huevo , un diente de adulto , fotos , recortes de periódico y un diario de viaje.
